Know & Contact “The Crew”

About The Crew:

David Mendez - Admin and contributor - Currently in the M.A.A program from Southern Evangelical Seminary. Along with these fellows I have a passion for teaching and contributing any way possible to the kingdom of God. Some of the future projects with the team (we like to call it “the consortium”) are speaking at churches, seminars, camps, college groups as well as possibly doing some writing (curriculum and books). I have served for about two years at Stonebriar Community Church and finished an internship there called the “Thousand Mile Conversation” with Dallas Seminary profs, church leaders and pastor Chuck Swindoll. I also have been in ministry for about twenty years, and one of the highlights was to work on the spanish version of Intro to Theology from The Theology Program. Also, I was blessed with receiving a Congressional Commendation from congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson while being a director at the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

People who have influenced me: Max and Ray have been both mentors and brothers to me. Their experience and knowledge have always reminded me that the little that we contribute to the kingdom, tempered by the Holy Spirit and a humble attitude, can take you a long, long way. And of course, my prof and friend Dr. Norman Geisler who besides being one of the best professors I’ve had, he was the first one to open up his home when I arrived to Charlotte NC. Having lived with an evangelical thomist legend and a great apologist, taught me more about him than any biography could ever describe - that, and the fact that he gave me a lot of books while I was there and Ms. Geisler always made sure I ate my veggies every day.

Max Herrera - Contributor (http://www.battleforgod.org) - Max Herrera, a Christian apologist. Along with Norman Geisler and Wayne House, Max co-authored the book The Battle for God. In addition, Max has published in the Christian Research Journal, the Christian Apologetics Journal, the ACPA and other scholarly journals.  Max has two earned masters: in apologetics and in philosophy, and he is currently completing his doctorate in philosophy at Marquette University. Max came to trust Christ twenty-six years ago and has dedicated his life to understanding and defending the Christian faith. Max is also an ordained apologetics pastor in the Calvary Chapel movement.

Ray Ciervo - Contributor ( http://www.rayciervo.com ) -  I am a Vietnam Veteran. I was not a ground soldier (say “Grunt”), but a support person for the South Vietnamese Air Force, 632nd Combat Support Group, Binh Thuy Air Base, Binh Thuy, South Vietnam. I worked as a liaison between the US Air Force and the South Vietnamese Air Force for some of my time, but functioned as a Crash Rescan most of the time. My time in Vietnam contributed to my realization of the need for a lot to be fixed. I came to realize that only God could fix whatever needed fixin’.

I’ve been a pastor-teacher, church planter, conference speaker, taught seminars, trained leaders, and discipled men for over thirty years. I’ve spent most of my life in the Northeast but have traveled to England, Guyana, Costa Rica, Colombia and Tanzania for ministry purposes.

I went back to school at the age of 52 to get my masters degree in apologetics. I graduated in 2002, summa cum laude. Not bad for an ol’ guy.

I’m trained as an “apologist” a defender of the faith. I mostly deal with cultural apologetics, but love to engage the battle for ideas around evolution and creation. I love theology and the classical theologians, like Augustine, Aquinas, Bonaventure, Anselm and the other great Medieval scholars. There are many today that are also right on like, D. A. Carson and N. T. Wright, to name two of my favorites. (Think I may change my name to R. C. Ciervo!) There are others like my mentor and friend Norm Geisler, my pastor and friend Charles Simpson, and many others who have contributed to my life.

Hi,

I appreciate the site, which is interesting and useful for apologetics. I have found Norman Geisler helpful in my research on the problem of evil and free will.
